Anecdotes respecting Cranbourn Chase, with a very concise history of it, 1816 Sep.

Autograph manuscript, lightly corrected and annotated in a different hand, of a history and description of the hunting region of Cranborne Chase. Includes descriptions of hunting customs, use of hunting dogs, noted hunters from royal or noble families, and past conflicts between property owners and poachers or deer-stealers. According to the preface, the history was written at the request of Lord Rivers [George Pitt, 1751-1828] whose claims to the Chase had been denied in a trial at Salisbury, and was based on earlier writings requested by Mr. Beckford of Stapleton [Peter, 1740-1811] for similar reasons.
